Craft
crafts in úbeda
Craftwork in Úbeda dates back to time immemorial and has continued to this day. Its identifying traits and quality are such that various local artisans have won numerous awards. The city has one of the largest and most varied concentrations of craft workshops in Andalusia. Its border location and its cultural mix have generated a richness of traditional crafts, where Arab, Mudéjar and Renaissance influences have been blended.
Most of the workshops are family-run and make everything from pottery to wrought iron, including cabinetmaking, woodcarving, artistic stained glass, stonework, jewelry and vegetable fibers. Undoubtedly, the timeless latticed pottery stands out, so characteristic with its green colours, of which numerous samples can be found in the Potters´ Quarter, located on Valencia street, and in the surroundings of Plaza Vázquez de Molina and the city walls.
In short, it is a craft that currently not only enjoys artistic recognition locally and regionally, but also internationally, with the creation of the Spanish Association of Ceramic Cities, of which Úbeda is a member of the Executive Committee.

HOLY WEEK IN ÚBEDA
Holy Week is one of the most important events of the year in the town of Úbeda. Holy Week of Úbeda has been declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia. Images, taken out in processions from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday, offer a tour of the most exalted religious imagery in the province of Jaén.
Among the most emotional moments of the many in Holy Week in Úbeda, two stand out. The exit at dawn on Good Friday of Jesús Nazareno, and the rapid ascent of the Virgen de la Soledad (Virgin of Solitude) carried on the shoulders of penitents up the steep hill Cuesta de la Merced. Not to be missed is the General Procession, which takes place on the night of Good Friday, an impressive chronological representation of the Passion in which twenty thrones and nearly 3,000 penitents participate. It is especially recommended to see it in the Plaza Vázquez de Molina.
